July 1st. Canada Day!

People!

So, luck would have it that my day off is Canada Day. Brilliant.

Since my first pay day was yesterday, I spent last night getting rather drunk. I woke up today a little earlier than intended, but it turned out for the best. If I went any earlier I would be mind numbingly bored!

Looking at the Canada Day in London website, I had high hopes of getting my poutine on. So, I gathered up my shit and ONWARD!

I took the tube to Charing Cross and headed out towards Trafalgar Sqaure. Clearly a celebration happening, but there wasn’t as many people as I had expected. Ah, no worries. Less to get in my way. :P

I had been speaking to my Aussie friend Chloe (whom you may remember from my first few posts from London), and she was in London that week before she left for the USA. She agreed to come to Canada Day with me, so I finally found her lounging by the fountain. What fun! It was nice to see her again! Chatted a bit, and swapped some stories. It’s hard to concentrate on conversation with the promise of poutine nearby… Soo, I drag her over to the line and fetch me some!

AH FUCKING MOTHER FUCKER. GOD DAMN SHIT ASS LIARS.

It was nothing but shredded mozzarella, and very very bad powdered gravy. Fucking hell. What a waste of money! Also no way to show an Aussie girl the taste of Canada. (That could be misinterpreted? lol)

Oh well, terrible poutine aside, we spent a few hours chatting about our travels and mucking about the lot. Some cool photos, but then it was time for her to go. Awww, going to miss her, but it’s okay. I’m sure we will meet again!

Shortly after she left, my flatmate Dan showed up. Chatted, mucked about, whatnot. Made him get a Tim Horton’s doughnut, and shared a (bad) ice cap. Then he had to leave.

Man it was hot… So grey out though! Kind of strange.

I then went for a short walk, just to get away from the crowd. Went to the Canada Store and bought some Bicks pickles and some mustard for 6pounds (!). Went over a bridge to the south bank, found the London Eye, and some other nonsense, then came back to meet my friend Steve after he was getting off work.

Steve was meeting other friends there, so he was going to introduce me. Good, I need to know more people.

Well, the other friends were none other than Benjamin the boot black from Vancouver, and his ex. Man, the world can be small sometimes. We spent the rest of the evening drinking, talking, lisiting to a performance from Hawksley Workman and Juli Black.

Then it was time to go home to bed. :)
